  1. By the River

From the recording Hand Picked Tunes

This song was written by my good friend Gary Carey. I've always loved this song and a few year ago, we surprised Gary at his birthday party and performed some of his own compositions. I chose this song and arranged it for guitar. It's stayed with me ever since so, finally , I recorded my arrangement, not to improve on the fine original but as an appreciation of a lovely fella and songwriter. Also I still owe him a tenner, but don't remind him.

Used with perdition, er I mean, permission.

Lyrics

By The River by Gary Carey

I’ve been lost so many times
searching for comfort I never find
torn by memory of all we left behind
there's a place by the river
where you and I would go
where time smoothes a pebble from every jagged stone and the peaceful waters flow

I lie awake each lonely night
worn and weary to tired to fight
chasing a dream that keeps on gleaming bright
there's a place by the river
where you and I would go
where time smoothes a pebble from every jagged stone and the peaceful waters flow

Its like a prayer being there

Pretty soon there’ll come a day
when I admit I cannot stay
Im gonna go back
try to find my way
to the place by the river
where you and I would go
where time smoothes a pebble from every jagged stone and the peaceful waters flow
